  • If you are an HGTV fan, like many people, you will have seen those TV shows where a home improvement expert will come into your home and take care of your home’s remodeling needs.
Soon residents of Devils Lake will have someone new they can call to take care of their small, medium or even large remodeling needs. Matt Moen is hoping to line up enough work to venture out on his own and this kind of thing is right up his alley.
    So who is Matt Moen?
He was born in Denver, grew up in Washington State the son of Russ and Sheila (Olson) Moen. His parents moved back to Devils Lake a few years ago to care for Sheila’s ailing mother who has since passed away. The couple decided to stay in Devils Lake and shortly after that Matt and his wife, Amber, and their son, Cole came to live in the Lake Region for the summer, to explore their options, as well.
Then they returned to Washington, Matt completed some more education, along came Noelle - a little sister for Cole - and the economy in the state of Washington continued to worsten making good-paying jobs there harder and harder to find.
Meanwhile Russ and Sheila were doing pretty well back in North Dakota and encouraged Matt and Amber to move back here to find work.
    So they did just that.
They found a house for their family just down the street from mom and dad, jobs and are making Devils Lake their home.
Matt has been working in Devils Lake for Johanson Construction and enjoying his work with them and everything he has learned but he’s itchin’ to be his own boss and to strike out on his own.
He’s a fan of HGTV and all those home renovation shows, too, and figures he can make a pretty good living in Devils Lake picking up the smaller or medium-sized jobs that the larger construction firms turn down because they are too busy.
In those TV shows they will totally transform a sad, out-of-date kitchen or bathroom into a stylish, modern and up-to-date delight all in a matter of an hour.
Well, in reality, it doesn’t happen quite that fast and if you’ve tried lately to find someone to come over to do one of the more small renovation jobs you need to have done, you’ll know contractors who will do the smaller jobs are few and far between.
Therefore Matt is hoping that he will be able to step in and fill a need that he has seen in this community. All he needs are some jobs lined up and the chance to prove his abilities as a carpenter. Word of mouth from satisfied homeowners will do the rest.
Page 2 of 2 - His new business will be called Moen Construction, will specialize in new construction, remodeling, decks, fencing and more - he says "no job is too small." Contact him at 701-270-1883 or at moenconstruction@yahoo.com for an estimate.
Matt’s grandfather is Arnold Moen, who retired a number of years ago from Lake Region Sheet Metal, and lives on the family’s farm just past Six Mile Bay.
It has been in the Moen family for over 130 years.
