  • Have you ever looked up at menacing storm clouds and worried about tornadoes, strong winds, or damaging hail?  Did you wonder if you should take cover or head to your basement?
SkyWarn Storm Spotter training will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 6:30-9:15 pm in the Tolna Fire Hall.  The training is free of charge and open to anyone interested in learning more about weather.
The class is hosted by Nelson County Emergency Management. The Grand Forks office of the National Weather Service will provide the instruction.
You will learn about severe weather development and behavior, storm cloud formations, staying safe during severe weather, and reporting severe weather to the National Weather Service.  Storm photos and video clips from actual storms are part of the class.
Storm spotters serve their local communities by acting as eyes and ears in the field, and provide a vital source of information when dangerous storms approach. Spotter reports help meteorologists issue timely, accurate, and detailed warnings. With all of the sophisticated radar and analysis equipment, there still remains a great need for information that only a dedicated spotter network can provide.
If questions, please contact Nelson County Emergency Management at 247-2472.
