I will admit it, litter bugs me. But you know what bugs me more?  Litterbugs.  Picture this, the sun is shining, birds are singing.  You are taking in all the beauty of a spring day.  You spot come spring flowers peeking up and what is that laying in the crocus?  A large slurpy cup. Really, Litterbug?  You couldn't walk a few more steps to the trash can?

Keep America Beautiful was founded in 1953. Their mission was to bring the public and private sectors together to develop and promote a national cleanliness ethic. It started in New York and has come a long way since litter pick up days and garbage cans in public places. Today, they are also involved in several national recycling efforts as well. To promote their mission, they have done numerous Public Service Ads (commercials and television) over the years. They have had many slogans through the years.  "Every Litter Bit Hurts"; "People Start Pollution, People can Stop It"; "Keep My Town Beautiful "; "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute"; and Missouri's own, "No MOre Trash!".  My favorite is "Don't Be a Litterbug" or "Please Don't Be a Litterbug" if you want to be extra polite.

Pick Up Boonville on March 30, is your chance to pick up after all those little "buggers".  You still have time to get a group together, or just come on down Saturday to the Katy Depot and pick up your trash bags and gloves, all the equipment you need to put those "litterbugs" in their proper place.  Later we'll have some lunch and enjoy some music, by Boonslick Grove.

So remember, Don't Be a Litterbug and as always, Shop Local, Play Local, GoBoonville.

Long before being "green" was fashionable, Keep America Beautiful formed in 1953 when a group of corporate and civic leaders met in New York City to discuss a revolutionary idea — bringing the public and private sectors together to develop and promote a national cleanliness ethic.
