Although planned for March 16, the day before St. Patrick's Day, the event coming this weekend at the city's local Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW, will have a touch of the Irish about it.
There will be St. Patrick's Day decorations, no doubt, Irish music from the juke box, and green beer - or orange for those who prefer - but there will also be a traditional Irish meal of corned beef, cabbage and other traditional Irish foods, served from 1 to 7 p.m. The cost of the meal is $6, but if you are eligible and become a new member of the VFW, they'll pick up the tab for the food.
Several organizations will have informational tables at the event like Military Outreach, Job Services, the Veterans Administration, Military Honors, the Family Assistance Coordinator and more. These representatives will be on hand to inform military service members, veterans and their families about some of the different beenfits and support agencies that are available to them. These will be available from 1 - 5 p.m.
The mission of the VFW is to foster camaraderie among United States veterasn of overseas conflicts, to serve our veterans and our communities and to advocate on behalf of all veterans.
The club is located at 314 3rd Ave. NE in Devils Lake and the event is open to the public.
