Poor weather conditions in the New Rockford and Rolla areas forced school officials to postpone the championship games of the District 7 and District 8 basketball tournaments on Monday.
According to school officials, a winter storm made travel for games unsafe. The weather conditions prompted some area schools to close, and plan for later opening times on Tuesday morning.
Both tournaments are scheduled to resume this afternoon, beginning with loser-out games.
In New Rockford, a pair of loser-out games will decide the four teams advancing to the upcoming Region IV Basketball Tournament. Starting at 4 p.m., the New Rockford-Sheyenne Lady Rockets will face off against Four Winds-Minnewaukan. That game will be followed by a showdown between Midkota and Harvey’Wells County.
The winner of the two loser-out games will join Lakota/Adams-Edmore and Carrington in the regional field.
Lakota /A-E and Carrington will face off for the District 7 title starting at 7 p.m.
In Rolla, the District 8 tournament will wind up with a pair of loser-out games featuring Langdon Area and Rolla and Starkweather-Munich and Rolette-Wolford. The Langdon Area-Rolla matchup will lead off the action at 4:30 p.m.
North Star and Benson County will play for the District 8 title at 7:30 p.m.
The Region IV Basketball Tournament will tip off next week in the Devils Lake Sports Center.
