The Way I See It
My name is Dennis Miller and I am a lifelong resident of Kirksville, MO. I have been totally blind since birth and a sports fanatic just as long. I like all sports but love baseball and am a proud lifelong member of Cardinal Nation. It is my honor to be given the opportunity to write a blog for the Kirksville Daily Express and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

The Missouri Tigers won their second road game of the year in very impressive fashion as they easily defeated South Carolina on Thursday night.  The Tigers did few things wrong and South Carolina did few things right which led to a lopsided win by the Tigers who desperately needed a road victory like that not only for their confidence level but also for their post season aspirations.  Mizzou returns home to the friendly confines of Mizzou Arena for their second meeting of the year with LSU on Saturday.  The Tigers are undefeated at home this year.

Both Truman Bulldogs basketball teams braved the weather to travel to Warrensburg on Wednesday and it wasn’t a particularly good night for either team.  The women got off to a terribly slow start and although they battled back they simply weren’t able to overcome a horrid shooting night and fell to Central Missouri who didn’t play all that well themselves.  The men were simply overmatched in their loss to Central.  Both teams finish up regular season play tomorrow in Maryville against Northwest Missouri State.  If the women can win tomorrow it will give them a first round bye in the MIAA playoffs which start next week.  A loss tomorrow would give them the no. 5 seed and they would host either Lincoln or Southwest Baptist on Tuesday.  The men play on the road Monday regardless of the outcome but where they play depends on who wins and who loses tomorrow.  They will either play at Washburn, Pittsburg State or Central Oklahoma.  We’ll try to have that all straight in Monday’s blog.  As I mentioned earlier in the week the MIAA has changed it playoff format now that it has 354 teams thus every team makes the playoffs in a sense.

The Kirksville High School basketball teams are on their way to Mexico, MO for district games this evening with the Lady Tigers facing Moberly who they have already easily defeated twice this year while the boys play a very good Mexico team.  The district schedule has changed several times this week because of the weather which is why the information in Wednesday’s blog was incorrect.  Actually, it was correct when I wrote it but then they changed it.

Other things to look for this weekend include NASCAR’s second race of the season on Sunday and the Honda Classic golf tournament which as of this writing has Tiger Woods near the top of the leader board.

The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a blockbuster trade in my opinion earlier this week as they acquired Alex Smith from the 49ers to give them the quarterback they have been searching for.  Smith is an excellent quarterback who had the misfortune of sustaining a concussion and as oftentimes happens in the NFL was never able to get his starting job back because his backup was doing so well.  Smith is 28 years old and is very much in his prime and I think will thrive under the leadership of Andy Reid.

We’ll be back on Monday with a look back at all this weekend’s sports action and a look ahead to the week in sports.  Thanks so much for checking out this and all the blogs on the site.

Have a terrific weekend!
