U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp will host a series of Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) discussions across North Dakota during this week’s Congressional District Work Period. The Senate just passed, with Heitkamp’s support, a bipartisan reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act on Feb. 12 by a vote of 78-22. Heitkamp is calling on the House to work in a similar bipartisan manner to pass this vital legislation.
“I am looking forward to sitting down with a cross-section of North Dakotans to discuss how the legislation we passed will improve the lives of families in our state,” said Heitkamp. “I couldn’t be more proud that one of the first bills I co-sponsored has been passed overwhelmingly by the Senate. I will continue to push for this until the House passes a bill and the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act is signed into law.”
Heitkamp’s meetings are open to the public and take place in Devils Lake on Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. in the Chautauqua Room of the Lake Region State College, 1801 College Drive.
She also will travel to the other following communities:
Today she will be in Bismarck and Jamestown, Wednesday she will be in Fargo. Thursday, she travels to Grand Forks. Friday morning she’s in Devils Lake and Friday afternoon she is scheduled to be in Belcourt.
