The Die Hard franchise refuses to die.
A Good Day to Die Hard, the fifth installment in the Bruce Willis series, grossed an estimated $25 million to take the top spot at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
Last weekend's No. 1 film, Identity Thief, nabbed $23.4 million to take second place. Safe Haven, the latest tearjerker from Nicholas Sparks, debuted at No. 3 with $21.4 million. Escape From Planet Earth premiered to $16 million to rank fourth. Warm Bodies completed the top 5 with $9 million.
The fourth major new release of the weekend, the supernatural romance Beautiful Creatures, failed to attract moviegoers and opened sixth with $7.4 million. At No. 7, Side Effects drew $6.3 million.
Rounding out the top 10: Silver Linings Playbook (No. 8, $6 million), which is also expected to cross the $100 million mark in the coming days, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (No. 9, $3.4 million) and Zero Dark Thirty (No. 10, $3 million).
