WASHINGTON (AP) — Heidi Heitkamp plans to bring the wife of a North Dakota service member killed in action as her guest to her first State of the Union address as a U.S. Senator.
Heitkamp said Monday she will bring Adrienne Linde as her guest. Linde's husband, Darren M. Linde, was killed in December by an improvised explosive device while serving with the North Dakota National Guard in Afghanistan.
Heitkamp says that military families are often unspoken heroes and that by bringing Adrienne Linde she'd like to highlight their sacrifices. Linde will sit in the visitor's gallery of the U.S. House of Representatives during President Barack Obama's speech. Heitkamp will join other senators in a seat on the House floor.
