  • Arleigh Orton Hogenson, 77, of of Tacoma, Wash., died Friday, January 18, 2013 in Tacoma while under hospice care.
    Inurnment will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent Wash.

  • Arleigh Orton Hogenson, 77, of of Tacoma, Wash., died Friday, January 18, 2013 in Tacoma while under hospice care. Inurnment will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent Wash. Arleigh Orten Hogenson was born September 3, 1935 to Arthur Brady Hogenson and Edna Lillian McArthur Hogenson in Harlow, N.D. He attended Harlow elementary and later graduated from Webster High School in Webster, N.D. and Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Bronze Star Recipient. He also served in the Peace Corps. He was stationed at Novosibirsk, Siberia, Russia where he was assigned to teach business English and business seminars at the university. He had many friends and admirers when he lived at Tanara Villa Apts. He really enjoyed volunteering with Catholic Community Services as a driver and he loved his irreplaceable Ole Buns (a Jack Russell terrier) and the next two miniature pins he adopted. Arleigh married Phyllis Zink Richter from New Rockford, N.D. Arleigh lived and worked south of Seattle, Wash. area for Boeing and later as a real estate broker. He was also a drug rehab counselor. He was a member of VFW Narrows Bridge Post 10018 Tacoma, Wash. Arleigh’s “Norwegian” hurmor, uncommon sense, humility and compassion will be missed. Survivors include a son, Russell (Anne) Hogenson; daughter, Lisa Hogenson; three stepchildren, Candice, Kelly and Dale; two grandchildren, Brady and Amanda Hogenson; brother, Clayton (Marla) Hogenson of Morongo Valley, Calif. and Harlow, N.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and stepdaughter, Sandy. Smart Cremation was in charge of arrangements.
