  • After hearing the Devils Lake Access Committee is expecting a shortfall in its budget to maintain access to Devils Lake, the Devils Lake Park Board has agreed to increase its annual funding to the local group. At least temporarily.
DLPB superintendent Terry Wallace said the DLPB agreed to increase its annual funding from $6,000 to $7,000 following the board's regular meeting on Wednesday at the Devils Lake City Offices.
"The costs to maintain the lake access has increased over the years and more things have been added to assure that Devils Lake remains one of the top attractions in North Dakota and in the region," Wallace said.
Wallace said the Lake Access Committee, which is comprised of representatives from several entities, estimated it costs $44,000 per year to maintain year-round lake access, along with the maintenance of several fish cleaning stations for anglers. Wallace said the increase in funding from the park board will be reviewed next year.
The board also heard plans for major upgrades planned for the playgrounds at Roosevelt and Ruger parks beginning this spring. Wallace said he has already received $100,000 in grants to be used toward the project, which is estimated to cost $200,000.
