Bernard E. Holm, 84, longtime Tioga High School Administrator died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Tioga Long Term Care Facility.
Bernard E. Holm, 84, longtime Tioga High School Administrator died Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Tioga Long Term Care Facility. Funeral Mass was held at Saturday, January 12, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Tioga with Father Benny Putharayil officiating. Burial was in the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan. Bernard Erling Holm was born October 7, 1928 in Edmore, N.D., the only child of Alice (Severson) and Bernard Holm Sr. He attended school in Edmore where he graduated from Edmore High School in 1947. He attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks for one year. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served four years. In 1955 he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Kuchar, in Devils Lake, N.D. Bernard and Margaret moved to Minot where he attended Minot State College to finish his teaching degree. After graduating he accepted a position at Tioga High School in Tioga where he taught Business. While teaching at Tioga he obtained his Masters Degree at UND in Grand Forks, N.D. and became the Principal at Tioga in 1980. He retired in 1992. Bernie enjoyed many things over the years; coaching and umpping baseball in the summers, refereeing boy’s basketball games, traveling with his wife in their RV, attending Tioga Pirate sporting events, especially those of his children and grandchildren, the Minnesota Vikings, and in the last few years, meeting with his coffee buddies at the local Farmers Union. Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, of Tioga; children, Mike (Mary Ann) Holm, Tioga, Mary (Jon) Carl, Grand Forks, Michele (Jack) Schmitz, Clifford, N.D., Marcy (Gary) Spooner, Tioga, and Mark (Bridget) Holm, Moorseville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard Sr. and Alice; and step-father, Floyd Anderson. Fulkerson Funeral Home, Williston, N.D., is in charge of arrangements.
