She was baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church and throughout  life to the last, that faith was hers. She was raised on Devils Lake’s westside and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1934.  At the age of 14 she began working at the Montgomery Ward Store and eventually became the secretary to the store manager.  On October 13, 1952, Katherine married Leo Ignatius Walker in Devils Lake. The couple lived and farmed the Walker homestead near Maddock. Leo passed away in 1987. Katherine remained on the farm and was lovingly cared for by her family until her death. Katherine and her husband, Leo, will long be remembered for their untiring efforts, financial aid and sacrifices in seeing the building of St. William’s Catholic church to its completion and dedication on September 9, 1955. Their determination will never be forgotten. Katherine was a true Christian, conforming to the teachings of her church. She never compromised with what she considered wrong and was a staunch friend to many. Surviving are her children,  Katherine Walker and Leo M. Walker both of Maddock;  two grandchildren of the heart,  Derrick and Roman Fournier;  a sister,  Stephanie (William) Ryan of Harvey; and a sister-in-law, Joan Walker of Devils Lake.
