The Nelson County Arts Council is excited to announce that Guillermo “Memo” Guardia will hold an adult ceramic workshop in the Pekin Auditorium on Jan. 18-20 and continuing on Jan. 25-27. Students will go through the whole process of making ceramic pieces, from raw wet material to a hard functional object. Students will begin by creating functional objects such as pinch pots and small figurines, and then use those same techniques to create larger objects. In addition, students will experience shaping bowls/vessels using a potter’s wheel. The gap in class dates will allow all the constructed objects to dry before being fired in the kiln (oven used to fire ceramics). After the pieces have been bisque fired, students will then paint and glaze their work. Although the workshop will focus on ceramics, it will be complemented by other activities such as drawing and painting. At the end of the second weekend, students will have several projects completed to take home and enjoy. No prior experience is needed, just bring your imagination! Friday classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.; Saturday classes will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday classes will start at 11 a.m. and go until 5 p.m. Registration for the class is $100, which includes all supplies. Class size is limited to 15, so call now. To register call Stephanie Nelson at 701-247-3112 or e-mail her at email@example.com. The registration deadline is January 15.
