  • Frank J. Laturnus, 89 McClusky, formerly of the Rolla and Cando area, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky.

Laturnus, 89 McClusky, formerly of the Rolla and Cando area, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 27 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in McClusky.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. at Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky. Burial will be in the spring in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Cando, N.D. Frank John Laturnus was born on March 4, 1923 at Scott, Saskatchewan, Canada.   He was one of thirteen children born to Sylvester and Gunda Jane (Steffan) Laturnus.  The family moved to Starkweather, N.D., in 1947 and a few years later to the Cando area.  Frank and Alice Turcotte were united in marriage on September 29, 1947 at St. John, N.D.  They established their home on a farm near Cando.  They lived, worked and raised their children there.  In 1979 Frank and Alice moved to Rolla, N.D .,where Frank worked as a custodian at the Rolla Public School for many years.  Frank’s priorities were faith, family and farming.  He enjoyed visiting with family and friends.  A game of pinochle was always a part of any gathering.  He enjoyed attending social gatherings and catching up on the events with friends and relatives.  He especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren.  Frank and Alice celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past September.   Frank attended the Holy Family Catholic Church in McClusky and was a former member of the St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Rolla and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando.  Frank is survived by his wife, Alice of McClusky; son, Charles Laturnus of Roseville, Calif.; two daughters, Theresa (Robert) Jorgenson of McClusky; Helen (Owen) Berg of Langdon, N.D.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann (Phil) Schiele of Devils Lake and Betty Schiele of Fargo, N.D.; four brothers, Martin (Helen) Laturnus of Minneapolis, Edward (Bonnie) Laturnus of Munich, Wendell Laturnus of Minneapolis, Peter (Donna Lou) Laturnus of Munich; numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Regina Schall; brothers, Fred, Paul, John, George and Joseph Laturnus; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Schall, Adam Hoffert, Philip Schiele; sisters-in-law, Erma Laturnus and Marie Laturnus.  Hertz Funeral Home, McClusky is handling the arrangements.
