BELCOURT, N.D. — Hadley Smith scored 17 points and three other Four Winds-Minnewaukan players also reached double figures as the Indians defeated Class A Turtle Mountain 77-71 on Thursday in Belcourt.
FW-M was tied for sixth in this week’s Class B poll.
Smith tallied nine of his points in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers that helped the Indians forge a 43-25 advantage over the Braves at the intermission.
Colin Delorme finished the game with 16 points, including 11 in the opening half of the game that was play by Class A rules that saw the game divided into halves instead of quarters.
Austin Longie and Trayvon McKay also reached double figures in scoring for the Indians. Longie tallied 14 points on the night and McKay finished with 11 points.
Turtle Mountain also had four players reach double figures. The Braves were paced by Brock Keplin’s 16 points. Tiray Azure chipped in with 14 points while Tristan Keplin and Jalen Janotte added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The homestanding Braves outscored FW-M 46-34 over the final 18 minutes of play, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 18-point deficit at halftime
Four Winds-Minnewaukan is scheduled to play No. 2-ranked Beulah on Saturday in Rugby. The Miners are the defending state champion.
FW-M will also play host to the annual Four Winds Shootout Dec. 28-29 at Fort Totten High School.
That event will feature five games each day beginning at 1 p.m. both days of competition.
