Ellie Ripplinger hit three free throws with no time on the clock to force overtime, but Devils Lake still managed to come away with a 70-65 win over the Roughriders in overtime on Friday at the Devils Lake Sports Center. It was the first win of the season for Devils Lake which had dropped the season opener at Fargo North. “We thought we had it won (in regulation) ... but we didn’t,” Devils Lake coach Justin Klein said of Friday’s game. “But, we maintained our composure and (Alexa) Gathman stepped up and hit some free throws down the stretch the proved to be very important.” Devils Lake’s Christa Lysne led all scorers in the game with 27 points while Maddie Walford added 12 points in the winning effort. Gathman scored nine points, all of which came in the second half or the overtime session. Ripplinger and teammate Nicole Ladoucer each netted 21 points to lead the visiting Roughriders.
