  • Jason Wiberg topped the agenda at Monday’s meeting of the Devils Lake School Board as he gave a presentation about the many and varied activities the system provides for students.
Wiberg’s Powerpoint presentation outlined the number of students involved in the various teams and clubs offered. He emphasized the importance of activities for students and their success in life.
At the top of the action portion of the agenda was the Fine Arts Center Master Plan.
Superintendent Scott Privratsky discussed the work of the committee promoting the Fine Arts Center. Two members of that committee were present, Sally Dahl and Dr. Kirsten Enget.
Privratsky said there is already $175,000 that has been donated to the center. All that’s holding them back, now, is the lack of a master plan. During the ensuing discussion the board members emphasized their support for the project and directed the administration to request architectural proposals for qualifications to develop a master plan for a Fine Arts Center to be located at Devils Lake High School. The costs for the development of this master plan will be paid for from the existing Fine Arts Center Fund.
    Other business
The board voted to continue with the current school calendar for at least two years to give it a real chance, then evaluate it.
The board approved the group home policy manuals, held the first reading of the new policy regarding restraint or seclusion, approved the English Language Learner Bilingual Instruction Policy and a request for tuition waiver.
They also approved the N.D. School Board Association Policy Manual review agreement that will update the Century Code references, approved the school district audit report, finalized the superintendent evaluation and approved DLEA as a negotiating unit.
The next board meeting will be Monday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
