  • The bulk of Tuesday’s Ramsey County Commission meeting was taken up with reorganization after swearing in new member Myrna Heisler and re-elected members Bill Mertens and Mark Olson.
Scott Diseth was elected to head the commission and Mark Olson elected vice chairman.
The portfolios changed hands as each commissioner volunteered to fulfill their duties as commissioners by representing the county serving on boards and commissions. Then Mertens, who had been serving as chairman handed over the gavel to Diseth and he chaired his first meeting.
Chris Schilken from Forward Devils Lake informed the commissioners of land acquired for the industrial park north of Highway 2 from Bob Weed.
Earl Hanson from the county’s Veteran’s Service Office explained he was attempting to get information on the status of the Devils Lake Veterans Clinic, but at this time had nothing new about it to report.
Kristen Nelson from Emergency Management discussed the need for repairs to the office’s vehicle or the purchase of a different vehicle in the 2014 budget year.
Kevin Fieldsend discussed the county’s roads projects.
A committee from Arts in the Park visited with the commission about the possibility of using the Memorial Building as a back up for the Tuesday events in the summertime when weather threatens. The group’s spokesman was Larry Liere.
Commissioners Mertens and Ed Brown were appointed to be on the committee to iron out the operating and maintenance agreement for the area’s flood protection with the city of Devils Lake.
