  • The Lake Region Wood Carvers rafflled off a hand-carved nativity set and other items as a fund raiser for the club and its community programs that support the art and craft of wood carving. The unique hand-carved "North Woods Nativity" set consists of 17 pieces carved by club members. Other prizes were the three-piece "Moon Rising" wall decoration and an exquisite example of a cotton wood "Fairy House," both also hand carved by club members. The nature nativity set features Baby Jesus, who rests in a hollowed out tree trunk lined with pine boughs, Mary and Joseph and the three wise men, who have traveled far on snowshoes and skis. Trees, a raccoon, a beaver, a mountain goat, a big horn sheep, a moose, a goose and a grizzly bear gather to complete the woodland scene. The Lake Region Wood Carvers group currently meets twice a month (the second and fourth Monday) from 7-9 p.m. in the community room of Senior Citizens Center. The club promotes and provide knowledge about wood carving. Classes and special wood carving events are scheduled throughout the year, with projects for all levels of wood carving experience. The club consists of members of all ages with varying degrees of wood carving experience, from beginners to long-time veterans. If you would like more information about the Lake Region Wood Carvers or like to obtain a raffle ticket, contact club president Ed Forde at 701-662-2864.
