Most of us rarely get the opportunity to visit some of the most unique and beautiful places in the city of Devils Lake, its lovely and historic churches.
On Sunday, Dec. 9 you will have the rare opportunity to take a self-guided tour through five of them all located within walking distance of each other.
Starting at 1 p.m. stop in to see the interior of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church, the First United Methodist Church, Westminister Presbyterian Church and the Episcopal Church of the Advent. The focus of this tour are the brilliant stained glass windows each church features. In fact the tour is called “Through the Stained Glass.” Hosts will be present at each of the churches to help point out the unique features of the windows and the churches, themselves.
Five dollars will be charged for each adult on the tour and tickets are available in advance at Creative Impressions or at the door at each location the day of the tour.
At the end of the tour participants are invited to stop by the Ramsey County Sheriff’s house Museum for some seasonal refreshments and door prizes from 4 - 5 p.m. The door prizes include a $50 gift certificate from Leevers Foods and some stained glass items, including hand-made Christmas ornaments donated by local artisans.
Devils Lake High School violin soloist Jason Jia will be providing music at the museum, as well.
This opportunity to take a look at the city’s heritage through the jeweled tones of its stained glass windows is sponsored by the Devils Lake Historic Preservation Commission.
