Bill Mertens as president of the Ramsey County Commission thanked Joe Belford Tuesday evening for the 24 years he’d served on the commission and all his years as a public servant.
Near the close of the regularly scheduled Ramsey County Commission meeting of Nov. 20 Mertens commended Belford for all his work on behalf of the people of the county and gave him an opportunity to say a few words.
Belford pointed out that he felt very lucky to have served with and worked with such dedicated employees through the years. Noting that he grew up next door in the Sheriff’s house when his dad was sheriff of Ramsey County. He congratulated Myrna Heisler and wished her good luck as she comes on to the commission.
She replied, “I have big shoes to fill.”
Mertens invited everyone to attend a special retirement party for Belford planned for 2 - 4 p.m. in the basement meeting room of the Courthouse on Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Following that event at 5 p.m. the county will meet with the Devils Lake City Commission in a special session in City Hall to address the operation and maintenance agreement for the Devils Lake embankment and pumping stations plus some other items they were unable to get to at Tuesday’s meeting.
