Candyland offers chance to make Christmas wishes come true for kids

The wishing tree is up and the brightly colored candy canes are labeled with the stuff dreams are made of for Lake area children who's holiday will be made brighter through the efforts of the Lake Ozark Rotary Club.

The wishes of hundreds are hung with care on the “wishing tree”.

Each year, hundreds of children throughout the Lake area dream of brightly wrapped packages and overflowing stockings, and with a little help from the community, a record number of children will have their wishes fulfilled by the Lake Ozark Rotary Club.

In an effort to bring holiday cheer to all at Christmas, the Lake Ozark Rotary Club sponsors Candyland. The event provides needy kids with Christmas gifts.

The annual event offers Lake area residents and visitors the chance to put a few presents under the tree.

More than 400 children and their families will benefit from the program.

The club has a tree filled with candy canes with tags attached that list a child's name, age, size and a wish list at their boutique in the Stone Crest Mall. Specific names have been collected by Rotarians from local schools and service groups.

Contributors are asked to select a cane, purchase the items and return the unwrapped gifts to the Candyland Store located at the Stone Crest Mall.

Candy canes are also available at the Tri-County YMCA in Osage Beach.

The Lake Ozark Rotary Club and other Rotarians and volunteers wrap the gifts and deliver them to the schools where they will be distributed to the children in time for Christmas. If you don't have time to shop for gifts, but would still like to be part of the event, consider making a cash donation and the Rotarians will do the shopping for you.
