  • Devils Lake School Board seeks input on school calendar

  • Although it hasn’t been a year, yet, since the Devils Lake Schools adopted a later start date for the school year it was on the agenda Monday as a point of discussion.

  • Although it hasn’t been a year, yet, since the Devils Lake Schools adopted a later start date for the school year it was on the agenda Monday as a point of discussion.
    Superintendent Scott Privratsky brought the subject up and pointed out a few issues that have arisen. It was the consensus at the meeting that this was too soon to make a decision about continuing the schedule or returning to the earlier start date. “No doubt we will continue to receive input from around the district before we make that decision,” Privratsky said.
    Board president Kory Boehmer pointed out that should they return to the earlier schedule perhaps they needed to look at a way to cool the school buildings for those warm August days. The board agreed to revisit this issue at a later date and take a serious look at both the advantages and disadvantages of the calendar.
    Other business
    The district employees of the quarter were introduced and congratulated.
    Central Middle School was the focus of the building/program report for Monday’s meeting.
    The board members who attended the North Dakota School Board Association Convention each gave their feedback on the event.
    The superintendent evaluation forms were distributed and two items voted on: The DIDA - fund balance policy and policy BCBI - public participation at board meetings.
    The next meeting of the school board will be a working retreat scheduled for Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. off campus, the next regularly scheduled school board meeting will be Monday. Dec. 10 at 5 p.m.
