  • Reverend John Albert Klemp Jr., age 79, of Berlin, Wis., died on Monday, October 22, 2012, in Wausau, Wis. Pastor Klemp was born December 20, 1932, in Oshkosh, Wis., the son of John A. M. and Erna H. Reichmann Klemp. He was a graduate of Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, Concordia College in Milwaukee, and Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., in 1958. On February 20, 1960, he was united in marriage to Darleen Fay Eman at St. Paul Lutheran church in Flaxton, N.D. In infancy, Pastor was baptized and later confirmed in 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winneconne, Wis. He was ordained on July 11, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flaxton, N.D. Pastor Klemp served his Vicarage at Faith Lutheran in Reidsville, N.C. He served at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flaxton, St. John in Larsen and St. Mark in Portal, N.D., as well as a vacancy in Estevan and Midale, Sask, Canada, and Fortuna, N.D. Between 1958-1964. From 1964-1973, he served Zion Lutheran at Harwick, Minn. and St. John in Trosky, Minn., and from 1973-1976, at St. Peter in Wentworth, S.D., and St. John in Chester, S.D. From 1976-1993 he served Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Cadillac, Mich. And Faith Lutheran in Mesick, Mich,. Church in Cadillac, Mich., and Faith Lutheran in Mesick, Mich. He served 1994-1999 at All Nations Lutheran in Rock Lake, N.D., in 2000, as vacancy Pastor at St. Paul in Newton, Trinity in Mecan, and St. John in Busdin, Wis.; and from 2000-2002 as vacancy pastor in Trinity Lutheran in Wautoma, Wis. Pastor Klemp also served on boards of Dakota Boys Ranch in Minot, N.D., On-Going Ambassadors for Christ, Garrison Bible Camp in Garrison, N.D., and Walther League Camp at Lake Okobjoji, Iowa. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Berlin. Klemp is survived by his wife, Darleen; six children, Hope (Rev. Mark) Lewis of Mosinee, Wis., John A Klemp III of Abiline, Texas, Beth (Brian) Poilatz of Madison Hts., Mich., Emily (Timothy) Garthe of Royal Oak, Mich., Michael (Polly) Klemp of Minot, N.D., and Sarah (Joshua) Christenson of Devils Lake, N.D.; 11 grandchildren, Zachary (Jessica), William, and Lydia Lewis, Rebecca (Peter) Leannah, Benjamin and Bruce Pollatz, Haley and Timothy Jr. Garthe, Trevor Klemp, and Harley and Holden Christenson; one great-grandchild, Zoey Lewis; two sisters, Joy King of Clinton, Wis., and Alice (Lloyd) Tesch of Neenah; one brother, Arvin (Gail) Klemp of Crary, N.D.; and two step-brothers, Ed (Jeanne) Sommerville of Menash and Rev. Arthur (irene) Sommerville of Anderson, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mina Ann Klemp in infancy; step-mother Gladys Klemp; sister, Betty Buchholz; and brother-in-law, John King. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran church, 169 Mound Street, Berlin, the Rev. Bryan G. Lundquist officiating. Interment wil be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Fremont. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, October 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At Barbola Funeral Chapel in Berlin and also at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran church in Berlin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Barbola Funeral Chapel of Berlin.
