  • FORT TOTTEN, N.D. – The News from the Spirit Lake Nation provides a listing of the good and positive things that are happening on the reservation.

  • FORT TOTTEN, N.D. – The News from the Spirit Lake Nation provides a listing of the good and positive things that are happening on the reservation.
    •Spirit Lake Fire Department – Visiting Range Firefighters are presently visiting Spirit Lake from the Zuni and Southern Pueblo Agencies assisting with firefighting and sharing their technical assistance with the tribe.  To date there have been 340 wild land fires in the area.
    •Ft. Totten Housing Authority has completed the setting up of the first five of the donated excess FEMA trailers for emergency housing purposes.  Hook ups for water and sewer utilities were done with the help of the Water Resources Department.
    •Water Resources Program – The Water Treatment plant project is 50 percent completed, completion date is to be February 13, 2013.
    •Heidi Hiedkamp Campaign visited Spirit Lake Veterans on services and needs.
    •October 1-5 was Sacred Children’s Place Book Fair 8 - 5 p.m. each day at the Cankdeska Cikana College
    •Public Health Nursing and Health Education are promoting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Please listen to KABU and watch for postings for dates and times of our community FLU Vaccine clinics.
    October 10
    •October 10 – Spirit Lake Health Board and Health Administrator to join other three N.D. Tribes in joint meeting with N.D. Department of Health and N.D. Department of Human Services, Indian Health Services, and N.D. Indian Affairs Commission toward improved collaboration and communication related to joint Tribal and ND state health issues, initiative and services.
    •On Oct. 10 the Great Plains Area Director and other representatives will be at Spirit Lake to meet with tribal government to discuss and follow up with the transition of Social Services programming from the tribal contract back to federal direct service provision.
    October 13
    •Congressman Rick Berg will meet with Tribal Chairman and Council of Spirit Lake Friday, October 13 at 11:45 a.m..  Prior to this meeting he will be visiting our college students to gain an understanding of tribal needs.
    October 18
    •October 18th Farmer’s Market 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. front entrance of college
    October 18 - 21
    •Spirit Lake Youth Substance Abuse Prevention Services and Tobacco Prevention Assistance Programs will be leading the Red Ribbon Month Activities Planning.  Watch for activities schedule for Oct. 18 - 21.  Call 350-1529 for Lisa – or 294-2361 for Stephanie.
    October 24
    •October 24 – CCCC Library Family Night
    •Spirit Lake Tribe will be celebrating an Open House for our new EMS facility to be held on Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a noon honoring meal.  Representatives from the IHS Area office will be attending, all Aberdeen Area Tribal EMS programs and ND EMS programs will be invited, and the public.

    •October 25 – Woodlake District at the Pantry Center  3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Oct. 26 Ft. Totten and Crow Hill Districts at the Tribal Conference Room 10 am – 2 pm;  Oct.27 –Mission District at the Rec Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    October 25 - 26
    •October 25-26 Awareness and Healing Conference will be held at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort sponsored by the Spirit Lake Victim Assistance program in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Topics will include domestic violence, victims services, testimony of a batterer, DV law enforcement, family services, federal services to victims, effects of violence on children and healing
    October 25 - 27
    •October 25-27 will be the schedule for the Spirit Lake Tribe Community Health Annual Report to the People.  This is both an oral and written report to the people, open forum, meal shared and health fair screenings and activities.
