  • GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The near white-out conditions Grand Forks residents endured this week has an upside: The county's burn ban is lifted.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that Sheriff Bob Rost announced the lift Friday. He says rural fire chiefs have reported that enough precipitation has fallen to lift the ban.
Rost warns that people still need to monitor any fires and be prepared to put out fires if they start to get out of control.
The county is one of several to implement burning bans over the past few weeks as the ongoing drought created ideal conditions for fire to spread. Pembina and Nelson counties lifted their burning bans Thursday. The area was hit by more than 4 inches of snow in some spots late Wednesday and early Thursday.
