  • FARGO, N.D. — Devils Lake continues to show improvement in its scores as the Firebirds had two golfers finish in the 90s on Wednesday at the Fargo North Invitational. Katie Brandt and Mallory Vose carded a 96 and a 97, respectively, for the Firebirds at the meet held at Edgewood Golf Course. Their performances helped DLHS to a team score of 444 and a ninth-place finish in the 10-team field. Fargo Davies, which grabbed the top three individual scores, won the meet with a 324. The Eagles finished 21 strokes ahead of runner-up Fargo North. The Spartans scored a 345. Grand Forks Red River (385) and West Fargo (405) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Fargo Shanley and Grand Forks Central tied for fifth with 409s. “They are both shooting very well,” Devils Lake coach Dave Kerlin said of his two leaders. “They are shooting well, but I think both are starting to see where they can make up a few strokes. “(Vose) has been very consistent and I am waiting for her to break out and have a better round,” the DLHS coach added. Three younger Firebirds both carded personal-bests in Wednesday’s event, according to Kerlin. Alex Palmer and Marlana Lewis shot 122 and 129, respectively, to help Devils Lake to its 444 team score and Maranda Jenson’s 130 was also a personal-best. “These girls have come a long way from the start of the season,” Kerlin said, “and I believe they will see more improvement by the end of the season.” Davies’ standouts Kathleen Marsh and Allyson Meyer tied for medalist honors as each carded 78s on the day and both finished one stroke ahead of teammate Jennifer Marsh, who scored a 79.
