The Devils Lake Chapters of Business and Professional Women and AAUW are sponsoring a Women’s Equality Day Awareness Walk on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Registration will be at 10 a.m. at Roosevelt Park in Devils Lake. Register in front of the skate ramps in the middle of the park.
Women’s Equality Day was established in 1971 by the U.S. Congress to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The 19th Amendment was passed on August 26, 1920, and granted women’s suffrage. This was a great victory in the Women’s Equality Movement.
Come and help us celebrate the strides women have made towards equality and increase awareness of the struggles that still exist. The North Dakota Women’s Network recently released new research highlighting the need for more women in leadership. We’ll examine and discuss the white paper “Where Are the Women” provided by the network.
This family friendly event is free and open to the public. On-site registration for walkers is from 10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Following registration we will walk along the path in the park and bordering 4th Street and College Drive, about 1 mile in length.
For further information on the Women’s Equality Day Awareness Walk please contact Melissa Gillett at 701-350-2745 or Michelle Fritz at 701-230-3748.
Ellen Chaffee is a Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota in the 2012 elections, running on a ticket with gubernatorial candidate Ryan Taylor. She will be attending the Devils Lake Women’s Equality Day Awareness Walk. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and visit with her.
Plus, the First Nations Womens Alliance will also be joining in on Saturday's walk.
