  • GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Criminal cases against members of a Nelson County farm family involved in a prolonged standoff with authorities last year will be handled in Grand Forks County.
State District Judge Joel Medd has approved a change of venue for Rodney Brossart, his wife and four children for reasons including media coverage and the small population of Nelson County.
Rodney Brossart is charged with felony terrorizing and theft.
The summer-long standoff began as a case of missing cattle.
Authorities allege that the family members at one point leveled guns at officers and say the Brossarts ignored repeated orders to appear in court.
Defense attorneys have raised questions about government conduct, including the use of a surveillance drone. The Grand Forks Herald reports Medd rejected a defense request to dismiss the charges.
