  • BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Gov. Jack Dalrymple is requesting that U.S. Department of Agriculture begin assessing crop damage and loss across North Dakota due to weather.
Dalrymple sent a letter Friday asking the Farm Service Agency to prepare a damage assessment report on the losses due to drought, hail, flooding and other weather-related events.
The assessment is the first step in seeking a disaster declaration. A disaster declaration would make USDA funding and other disaster assistance available to farmers and ranchers who have damaged crops.
Data from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 30 percent of the state is experiencing a drought.
