  • FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The director of the horse racing in North Dakota says the reopening of a Fargo horse track exceeded his expectations.
The Forum reports that nearly 2,000 fans braved 90-degree heat for Saturday's event at the North Dakota Horse Park.
Races at the track were put on hold after the track's seventh season in 2009 because of financial problems.
Winston Satran, director of the North Dakota Racing Commission, says getting the track back into commission has not been easy. He says the turnout on opening day is a "tribute to the Fargo people."
The Fargo facility is one of two state-sponsored horse racing tracks in North Dakota.
