BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) — Charges are pending against the driver of a pickup truck that authorities say drove over a tent at a North Dakota campground, killing two children.
The Highway Patrol says the 30-year-old man from Newburg lost control of his truck shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday while negotiating a curve in the Hahn's Bay Campground at Lake Metigoshe, in the north central part of the state.
The patrol says the truck drove over the tent and crashed into a tree, killing a 5-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy, and injuring another 9-year-boy and a man. The patrol identified only the adult. Twenty-eight-year-old Juan Ruiz of El Paso, Texas, was flown to a Minot hospital with what the patrol says are serious injuries. The patrol says the second 9-year-old has minor injuries.
