  • Dancers from the Devils Lake Just For Kix program participated in a Just For Kix camp held at the University of Mary in Bismarck, June 24-26.
Twenty-one Devils Lake dancers from grades K-8 joined in the event. The camp was held for Just For Kix dancers from around the tri-state area and was led by award-winning Just For Kix staff members.
Dancers participated in three classes each day of camp to perfect skills in the jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and high-kick styles of dance.
A camp show was held the final day to showcase routines for family members, coaches and other campers.
Dancers were awarded ribbons for special skills exhibited during camp.
Certain individuals from each age group were recognized as top award winners, including one dancer from the Devils Lake program.
Paris Cavanaugh was awarded the Heather Habeck All-Star Award for the kindergarten-first grade age group.
This award honors a deceased Just For Kix camp instructor who was known for her outstanding dance technique, energy and positive attitude.
It is a culmination of the Most Outstanding Dancer and Firecracker awards, and is considered the highest award given at camp.  Cavanaugh is a 1st grade Wee Petite dancer.  Devils Lake also had many award winners from the solo and small group competitions held at camp:
Sylvia Freidig – 1st place – solo competition (Grade K-1 Division)
Brynn Lacina and Kaylee Lang – 1st place – duo competition (Grade K-4 Division)
Abbey Olson – 1st place – solo competition (Grade 5-6 Division)
Alexis Lehmann – 2nd place – duo competition (Grade 5-8 Division)
Amanda Lang, Madison Wood, Addisyn Meyer and Lainie Estenson – 6th place – small group competition (Grade 5-8 Division)
Kelsey Papachek also received special recognition with a medal for being an eighth year camper, longer than any other camper in attendance. The Devils Lake Just For Kix program is directed by Erin Lacina.
