  • MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Residents who live along a popular lake getaway near Minot continue to explore ways to tame rising waters.
Rice Lake has gone up more than four feet in the past two years. It began rising after three straight winters of heavy snows and goes up an average of a quarter- to half-inch per day. It's not unusual to see portions of docks, shed doors and other debris floating on the lake.
The state Water Commission has approved a $2.8 million grant toward construction of a pipeline that would carry water more than 10 miles south of the lake. In the meantime, residents are looking at short-term options like sandbags and pumps.
The Minot Daily News reports there are 168 properties on the Ward County lake, including 35 year-round residents.
