GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — University of North Dakota incoming freshman Jordan Schmaltz was selected in the first round of the National Hockey League draft by the St. Louis Blues.
Schmaltz was the 25th player taken overall. He is the 15th player in UND history to be selected in the first round.
Schmaltz played for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League last season. The 6-foot-2 defenseman will play for North Dakota in the fall.
UND recruit and former Grand Forks Central High School standout Paul LaDue was drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Kings.
