  • GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — A Grand Forks resident has been named North Dakota's 2012 Congressional Art Competition winner.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that William Rerick won the contest with his piece "My Daddy's a Farmer." The theme was "What does North Dakota mean to you?"
The recent graduate of Red River High School was one of nine finalists chosen by regional art departments at Bismarck State College, Minot State University, the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University.
Rerick will represent North Dakota in the "Artistic Discovery" exhibition displayed in Washington, D.C., and his piece will hang in the exhibition for a year.
As part of the prize, Rerick was flown out to Washington, where he met with Rep. Rick Berg.
