  • MAYVILLE, N.D. (AP) — Some residents in the eastern North Dakota city of Mayville are urging a local grain elevator to install a dust control system before expanding.
Jeff Bachmeier lives within a block of the Mayport Farmers Co-op Elevator. He tells the Grand Forks Herald that area residents aren't asking for "pure clean air," just dust at "an acceptable level."
Elevator Board President Richard Moen says a proposal to build two storage silos that was submitted to the city's planning and zoning commission includes the installation of a $249,000 filter system to help control dust.
Bachmeier says the concerned residents want the dust control system tested first on the existing facility to make sure it works.
