CANDO, N.D. — When all facets of any sporting event comes together at the same time, good things are certain to happen.
They did for North Star in the second game of its doubleheader on Thursday against Dunseith and the end result was a 38-1 drubbing of the visiting Dragons.
North Star had taken the opening game with a 13-0 win behind a combined pitching effort of Kodie Vote and Drew Schill.
North Star, the visiting team on the scoreboard in Thursday’s nightcap, despite playing on its home field, scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the second to take an early 5-0 lead over the Dragons.
But, a nine-run uprising in the third inning virtually put the game out of reach.
If it didn’t, the fourth inning certainly did the trick.
North Star plated 16 runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 38-0 before Dunseith managed a single run in the bottom of the inning to close the contest.
Schill and Brooks Larson each collected five hits for the Bearcats in the game. Schill was 5 of 7, including a triple and scored five runs in the game. Larson, meanwhile, had six plate appearances and scored four times while collected three RBI in the contest.
Schill and Larson led a 20-hit offensive attack for North Star which also got four hits from Jacob Hagler and three hits from Daniel Grande. Hagler and Grande combined to drive in nine runs in the game.
Alex Weston tossed the first three innings on the mound to earn the win. He fanned two batters during his pitching stint before being relieved by Jayden Komrosky who three two inning and struck out three.
Schill got the day started nicely for the Bearcats. He rapped out three hits in the opener in three plate appearances and scored twice for North Star.
Hagler, along with Shawn Murchie and Steven Hunt all collected two hits in the game. Murchie’s hits included a triple and Hunt blasted a home run off losing pitcher Jalan Davis.
