  • The signings of a wealth of new players to Lake Region State College continues as Duane Schwab has announced he has inked four more high school standouts to letters of intent to enroll at the school and play basketball for the Lady Royals beginning this fall.
The longtime coach recently added Corley Berkner, My’Kale French, Andrea Gobo and Jordyn Kick to his list of recruits for 2012-13. That brings to 10 the number of new faces that will don the LRSC colors this fall.
Berkner, a five-foot, 10-inch standout  from Milbank, S.D., is among the list of new signees for Schwab, who will be entering his 24th season as coach at Lake Region.
“(Berkner) is a very strong and very physical player,” Schwab said.
Berkner averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game last season at Milbank.
My’Kale French will join the Lady Royals in the fall after   competing in Racine, Wis. this past season. She is a five-foot, six-inch guard who, according to Schwab, has tremendous quickness and is the most highly-decorated of the new class of recruits at Lake Region.
French averaged 10 points, five assists and four steals per game this past season. She was selected all city in the Milwaukee suburb and also earned all-conference accolades. She shot 60 percent from the floor.
Schwab also announced the addition of a foreign player to the stable of newcomers in the form of six-foot Andrea Gobo, a native of Melbourne, Australia.
Gobo averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds for her club team this past season and her presence, according to the Lake Region coach, will provide the Lady Royals with a strong presence in the middle.
Jordyn Kick is a five-foot, nine-inch versatile player who Schwab sees gaining plenty of playing time at several spots on the floor in the upcoming season.
Kick, who will graduate from Sisseston (S.D.) High School this month, helped her team to a state championship as a junior and was voted to the all-tournament team that season. Her team placed fifth this past season and Kick was chosen as an all-state performer after averaging 16 points and nine rebounds per contest.
Lake Region finished this past season with a 19-12 overall record and lose all but one player from that team.
