  • Altru Clinic in Devils Lake will sponsor University of North Dakota (UND) medical student Mat Malek for the Adopt-a-Student program, a program designed to connect medical students with practicing alumni and faculty from the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
The program builds relationships between esteemed physicians and fosters an environment that allows medical students to continue to grow.
“Our clinic looks forward to supporting Mat throughout his training,” said Dr. Heidi Bittner, Family Medicine, Altru Clinic in Devils Lake. As sponsors, staff at Altru Clinic in Devils Lake will mentor him throughout his schooling.
Malek, a native of Minot, ND, is a RuralMed Scholar, meaning he has agreed to practice in a rural area upon completion of his training.
He has chosen Altru Clinic in Devils Lake as his practice site.
“We welcome him as a future partner,” said Bittner.
Adopt-a-Student was created in 2011 as a way to connect current students with esteemed alumni and faculty of the UND School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
All sponsors provide engraved stethoscopes to first year medical students along with heartfelt letters.
