The Spirit Lake Riders Motorcycle Club is a warm group of men and women from all walks of life who share the love of motorcycles.
One of their own is going through some serious health struggles and his motorcycle club “family” are planning to hold a fundraiser during ShiverFest at Proz to help him and his family out during this tough time.
They're inviting the public to come and help out, too.
A steak fry will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 starting at 6 p.m. until gone, serving steaks from the grill, baked potatoes, beans and all the fixings.
Tommy Miller is 37 years old, married to April, they have four children ages 13, 11, 7 and 5. Recently Miller suffered a number of strokes and as a result had to have surgery to remove the clots, two large and multiple smaller. They also had to remove about a fifty cent piece size of his brain, itself. During his surgery it was found that he had a hole in his heart that he was unaware of, which may have contributed to his condition.
Once he is well enough, he will have surgery to repair that hole, as well.
Meanwhile he is going to therapy three times a week as he fights to get well.
Spirit Lake Riders Motorcycle Club President Brett Fredrickson says Miller is a good guy and it’s tough to see him going through such a difficult time. He says that the whole Miller family plans to come to Devils Lake for the ShiverFest weekend’s motorcycle show at the Holiday Mall and the fundraiser at Proz.
The Spirit Lake Riders Motorcycle Club is based out of Devils Lake, however, its members are from many places around North Dakota and Minnesota.
They are well-known in this area for the Memorial Motorcycle Rally and Rodeo held each year during Memorial Day weekend and for their fundraising efforts to help out those who are in need financially because of health problems.
The Millers live in Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Tickets for the steak fry can be obtained from any Spirit Lake Motorcycle Club member, Carol’s Barber Shop in the Holiday Mall, Steve Weber at Firestone and Proz. They are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.
