BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A 15-year-old middle school student has bagged a mountain lion with the help of her dad, dogs and her great-grandfather's gun.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that Saje (SAGE) Beard killed the cougar on Dec. 18 near her home, about 15 miles southeast of Bismarck.
Biologists say the male cat was about 3 years old and weighed 122 pounds.
The cougar was spotted by a neighbor who called Saje's father, Marty.
The Beards say they tracked the cougar with their dogs which chased it up a big cottonwood tree.
Saje says shot the animal with an old .30-30 Winchester that belonged to her great-grandfather.
Saje says about 40 neighbors have come by her home to see the big cat.
